Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold mostly steady to 4.00 lower, with the exception of pee wee featherweight calves under 450 lbs. which sold steady to 3.00 higher. The supply of feeders was moderate. Starting to see several producers who have held cattle sending those to town which is adding to the volume. Still many feel there is a long ways to go to get through the back up. It is unlikely unless markets become much more positive that they will all show up at once, so working through them is would seem to be a slow progress over time. Demand was moderate, extremely low placements in the most recent cattle on feed report would lead to believe that there will be some pen space to be filled even with the back log due to low slaughter numbers over the past month. Livestock slaughter continues to be a major problem in all sectors. As of Thursday on the cattle slaughter so far this week running near 185,000 behind the same point last year. Packers continue to struggle to keep chain running and enough staff to operate. Boxed beef cutout values continue the sharp climb to the unknown seeing new records every day. As of Thursday’s close choice was at 367.56 up 74.19 and select was at 350.16 up 71.14 compared to last Friday. According to the sterling profit tracker packer margins for last week were reported at 770.78 per head. That report uses the average previous five days cutout values given that feed lot sales are mostly steady this week and the actual current cutout value is over 100.00 higher than last weeks average its obvious to see packer margins have easily pushed way past the 1000.00 per head mark now. Feedlot sales have seen very light volume once again this week as of this report just shy of 40,000 head of cash sales reported. Live sales have been reported at mostly 95.00-100.00 and dressed sales 150.00-160.00. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 6170 head with a weighted average weight of 526.90 lbs. and a price value of 151.79, which is 3.53 lower than last Friday.
