Compared to last week feeder steers and heifers sold steady to 5.00 higher with some spots of 10.00 higher. The supply of feeders was light and demand was moderate. A few loads of heavy weight cattle showed up at various auctions this week as some producers just can’t hold them any longer. Most of the full loads of 8-850 weight steers sold within a couple of bucks on either side of the 120.00 mark. There was also near 1000 head of mostly 8-925 lbs. cattle that sold over video in conjunction with Joplin Regional Stockyards regular sale on Monday, with most being for current delivery. Another impressive string this week was 92 head of 512 lb. steers that sold for 174.75 at the Springfield Livestock Marketing Center. Weather in the state was a bit crazy this past week, on Thursday producers were in short sleeves in southwest Missouri enjoying sunshine with reports of some hay being baled and wrapped, while at the same time producers in northwest Missouri were driving through a couple inches of snow on their way to feed cattle hay. The biggest news filler this week was concerning slaughter facilities around the nation. Many plants are having a hard time keeping chains moving as they deal with health concerns of employees. This has resulted in a much lower slaughter volume this week and once again very little in the way of feedlot sales. Negotiated trade as of this report has been very light with just under 10,000 head confirmed. Live sales reported at 94.00-100.00 mostly 97.00 and dressed sales from 150.00-155.00 mostly 155.00, both several dollars lower than last week. Boxed beef cutout values have climbed once again as there are concerns about short term protein supplies due to the disruption in the slaughter process. As of Thursday’s close choice was reported at 235.87, up 11.94 and select was reported at 225.98, up 17.65 compared to last Friday’s close. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 3282 head with a weighted average weight of 524.57 lbs. and a price value of 154.75, which is 4.88 higher than last Friday.
