Compared to last week, steer calves sold steady to 5.00 lower and yearlings sold 10.00 to 15.00 lower, heifer calves sold steady to 3.00 lower with yearling heifers 7.00 to 10.00 lower. There was a few cases in the southern half of the state where calves of good quality and condition suitable for grazing bucked the lower trends and did see some slightly better markets, but these were exceptions and not the rule. The supply of feeders was moderate, several auctions saw decent volume after a few weeks of light runs. Demand was light to moderate, best on the lighter calves that still have a lot of time left to grow and hopefully allow for markets to stabilize. Grass has sprung up and many have now turned out to pasture or very near to doing so. Many producers finally got to spread fertilizer this week and still far from high gear but multiple reports from west central, northwest and north central areas of some corn going in the ground. Boxed beef values lost a lot of ground this week, as of Thursday’s close choice was down 20.20 at 232.64 and select was down 20.26 at 222.12 compared to last Friday. Feedlot sales have been very slow so far this week, some trade took place on Wednesday but volume was limited. Live sales were reported 6.00-8.00 lower at 112.00, dressed sales 10.00-15.00 lower at 175.00-180.00. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 4968 head with a weighted average weight of 540.87 lbs. and a price value of 156.45, which is 6.06 lower than last Friday.
