Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold 2.00 to 8.00 lower with some instances of 8.00 to 15.00 lower. The supply of feeders was light to moderate. Demand was moderate. A few barns actually called off sales this week due to lack of receipts. Several producers have feed and are not eager to market cattle deciding to ride it out a while and hope for some kind of bounce or turn around in the markets. Pretty hard to find any good news at the current time other than there could be some opportunity to invest while markets are low. Boxed beef cutouts were lower for the week. As of Thursdays close choice was down 1.46 at 206.01 and select was down 4.69 at 197.88 compared to last Friday. Feedlot trade developed on Wednesday with the majority of the weeks’ volume sold and bought. Live sales were reported mostly at 110.00 which was 2.00 to 5.00 lower, dressed sales were mostly at 175.00 which was 5.00 to 7.00 lower than the previous week. By Thursday bids had dropped even lower with some clean up type sales reported at 105.00 live and 170.00 dressed. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 3901 head with a weighted average weight of 540.36 lbs. and a price value of 158.52, which is 7.95 lower than last Friday.
