Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers under 700 lbs sold steady to 5.00 higher with some of the lighter weight calves suitable for grazing up to 8.00 higher, weights over 700 lbs sold steady 3.00 lower on a limited test. The supply of feeders was light to moderate, several producers currently not sure whether to market cattle or not given the volatility over the last few weeks. Demand was moderate to good on lighter weights, although many orders for summer grazers have already been filled there are still those that have to wait till grass is closer or growing before they are able to acquire their summer needs. These are generally more local type buyers who may not graze hundreds of calves on a large scale ranch but still play an important part in the spring markets all the same and will likely continue to show up for the next several weeks. As of Thursday’s close boxed beef cut outs were higher for the week, with choice up 1.95 at 207.25 and select up 2.15 at 201.06. Feedlot sales for the week were lower with trade mostly on Wednesday and Thursday. Live sales ranged from 113.00 to 115.00 unevenly steady to 2.00 lower and dressed sales were mostly 5.00 lower at 180.00-182.00. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 4022 head with a weighted average weight of 541.12 lbs. and a price value of 166.47, which is 4.87 higher than last Friday.
