Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold fully 5.00 to 10.00 higher, with some instances of 10.00 to 20.00 higher on light to midweight calves with quality and proper condition to add pounds quickly on wheat or grass pastures that will soon arrive. The supply was moderate to heavy. Although areas in the north still held on to some leftover snow, this was the first week in several that no additional winter weather was present in the state. Demand was good to very good as buyers looked for those calves that would theoretically gain weight on the truck ride to their new pastures. Several light five weight steers pushed right up to that magic 2.00 a pound mark with a very small handful of thinner steers creeping past it. Although those were the top tickets, just over 1200 head of 500-550 lbs. M&L1 steers had an average of 183.62 and that had moods pretty good in the local coffee shops this week. As of Thursdays close box beef cut outs were lower for the week, compared to last Friday’s close choice was down 3.59 at 204.50 and select was down 4.11 at 201.60. Feedlot trade so far has been mostly 1.00 higher on live sales at mostly 120.00 and steady on dressed sales at 190.00. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 8185 head with a weighted average weight of 549.08 lbs. and a price value of 170.97, 5.20 higher than last Friday.
