Missouri reported 359 priced lines covering 21,735 head across feeder cattle, slaughter cattle, replacement cattle. USDA puts feeder cattle receipts at 24,553 head. slaughter cattle receipts at 2,219 head. replacement cattle receipts at 1,126 head. Counted as USDA files them — 97 of those are cow-calf pairs, each counted once.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifer sold steady to 5.00 lower. The supply of feeders was light to moderate. Several mid-week markets had light supplies due to another round of winter weather that passed through the state. Much warmer weather over the weekend is sure to provide a heavy supply of mud looking into next week. Demand was moderate to good as buyers are still quite willing to buy cattle just at lower price levels. The coronavirus occupied significant news time this week and sent cattle futures tumbling early week, fears rocked all other sectors of the trading markets as well. Only time will tell if there will be any true lasting effects on the beef market or not but current fears were enough to cause some volatility with markets this week. Last week’s cattle on feed report came in mostly with pre-report estimates and no big surprises the report was viewed as mostly neutral to the industry. The semi-annual cattle inventory report will released on Friday afternoon. Most all categories are expected to be slightly lower according to pre report estimates. The most notable is the number of heifers retained for beef replacements which is expected to be down 3.5 percent. If this materializes it would be the smallest replacement number since 2014. Feedlot trade began to develop on Thursday. As of the afternoon live sales were averaging at 122.00 and a few dressed sales at 195.00. Boxed beef cutout values closed on Thursday afternoon with choice at 213.35 down 1.14 and select 210.70 up .78 compared to last Friday. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 5520 head with a weighted average weight of 550.65 lbs. and a price value of 158.68, 1.20 lower than last Friday.
