Compared to last week, feeders under 600 lbs. sold steady to 5.00 higher, heavier weights sold unevenly steady. The supply of feeders was light to moderate. Very few auctions were held in the in the north half of the state and by mid-week even those in the south were being affected by the winter weather. Loading and hauling any cattle was just a mess as was farm chores and trying to feed. The monthly cattle on feed report is due for release Friday afternoon. Pre-report estimates have on feed numbers at 102.1%, placements at 103.3%, and marketings at 105.3%. A typical widespread with the placement ranges but not as big as has been seen in the past. The big question following the report will be the weight make-up of the placement numbers. The pre-report range of estimates for marketings was also noted as being somewhat wide for that category as well. There is also a lot of anticipation upon the semi-annual cattle inventory report that will come out next Friday, Jan, 31. Boxed beef cutouts were mixed this week as of Thursdays close choice was up 1.15 at 215.32 and select was down 1.55 at 211.20 compared to last Friday. Feedlot sales developed on Wednesday with decent volume and carried over to pretty much finish up for the week on Thursday. Live sales were mostly 124.00-125.00 there was a few sales in Iowa noted up to 127.00. Dressed sales were reported mostly 198.00-199.50. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 4474 head with a weighted average weight of 551.93 lbs. and a price value of 159.88, 1.98 lower than last Friday. Weakness in the formula was due mostly to the fact many of the northern sales were not in play this week knocking many of the highs out of the formula.
