USDA puts feeder cattle receipts at 25,881 head. slaughter cattle receipts at 1,808 head. replacement cattle receipts at 1,811 head. Counted as USDA files them — 123 of those are cow-calf pairs, each counted once.

Compared to last week, feeders sold uneven. Near half the auctions around the state remained dark in observance of the Thanksgiving

holiday while a few others chose to hold special sales. Although there was only a limited number of auctions around the state there was a

heavy supply of load lots of yearlings which sold mostly steady to 2.00 higher. Other cattle, especially calves, had a little harder time finding

better money this week and sold steady to 5.00 lower mostly on limited test. As of when most were setting down for turkey dinner on

Thursday feedlot sales for the week were limited. Decent trade took place on Wednesday live sales 2.00 higher at 118.00-120.00. Boxed beef cutouts for the week were slightly lower as of Wednesday's close with choice down 0.33 at 232.24 and select down 0.68 at 210.64. The monthly cattle on feed report was released last Friday. The Cattle On Feed number was quoted at 101 percent of a year ago; Placements at 110 percent and Marketings at 99 percent. Placements were much higher than last year, but that was expected many producers had sold cattle early last year due to the drought and this year many chose to hold off as grass was green and markets were sour following late summer events. Markets didn't seem to be overly affected however as placements weren't as high as some had expected.
