Compared to last week, steers and heifers traded unevenly steady to 3.00 higher, except discounts made to un-weaned, fleshy calves. Supply and demand moderate. It is the time of year that buyers are focused on long-time weaned calves, preferring forty-five to sixty days or more. The seasonal cold weather swings are here and un-weaned, bawling calves are too high-risk. Calves and yearlings that have participated in health and vaccination programs have the best demand. Hay supplies and pastures are still in plentiful supply, continuing the farmer demand. Feedlot trade has been quiet this week. However, there were some sales in Texas with live sales 3.00 higher at 106.00. Producers are holding out for higher bids. Boxed beef cutouts have been up and down this week, but closed on Thursday at 212.06 for Choice and 187.21 for Select, 0.52 lower and 2.05 lower than last Friday, respectively. Friday??s Missouri Stocker Formula consists of 3810 head with a weighted average of 551.58 lbs. and a price value of 151.34, which is 1.70 higher than last Friday. Corn harvest has been sluggish, with only 26 percent completed, 36 percent behind last year??s pace and 21 percent behind the five year average. It looks like progress will continue to be hindered with the oncoming cold weather and precipitation in the forecast.
