Compared to last week, feeders sold 2.00 to 5.00 lower although many reporters had to look back two weeks, prior to the holiday for a comparison and recorded cases of calves under 600 lbs. selling as much as 8.00 to 12.00 lower. The supply of feeders was moderate with the majority of the offering over 600 lbs. Many full loads of yearlings were in the offering at various sales around the state. The Kingsville Livestock Auction, for example, had near 20 full loads at that one location. Despite a week of unseasonably high heat, pastures are in great shape at the point in most years when farmers are hoping for rains to get fall growth going before frost. There have been enough combines pull into corn and begin shelling to be noted on the crop progress report so perhaps only barely but fall harvest seems underway. Most of the crop does still need some time and there still seems to be more people chopping silage than shelling. Boxed beef cutouts dropped this week with Thursdays close at 219.97 on choice, down 7.34 and select at 198.60, down 3.34 compared to last Friday. Feedlot sales for the week have not had much volume at all. As of the afternoon report on Thursday thus far live sales were reported from 97.00-99.00 and dressed sales 156.00-159.00. Feedlot managers continue to see larger and larger losses each week as they sink further into the red ink. The latest Sterling Profit Tracker showed feedlot losses at 118.58 per head and packer profits at 430.73 per head. Friday's Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 4175 head with a weighted average weight of 560.74 lbs. and a price value of 147.04, which was 4.01 lower than last Friday.
