Compared to last week, steers and heifers mostly steady to 3.00 lower, however a few reporters mentioned some attractive yearlings selling a few dollars higher. It was a light receipts week, with the Labor Day Holiday kicking off the week. Historically, fall runs would start gearing up in the next couple of weeks. The feeder market is still hesitant to challenge any highs at the moment, with fat cattle trade being quite weak. With the front month of Live Cattle futures being under 100.00 and packers giving bids of 100.00, there isn’t much optimism surrounding cattle trade at the moment. Packer margins weakened slightly, but are still above the $450 mark, according to the Sterling Beef Profit Tracker. Compared to a month ago, packer margins were at $163 per head. Boxed beef cutouts closed on Thursday at 229.42 for Choice and 204.47 for Select, 2.35 and 7.80 lower compared to last Friday, respectively. Ample supply of market ready cattle and light demand are being blamed for the sharply lower values. However, slaughter numbers are still strong, keeping up with year ago numbers. In Nebraska, there were some live sales reported from 100.00 to 103.00 and dressed sales from 160.00 to 170.00. In Iowa/Minnesota, reported live sales were from 101.00 to 107.00 and dressed sales from 163.00 to 172.00. Most of the higher bids were seen earlier this week. The Fed Cattle Exchange had 335 head of heifers sell for 103.00, compared to last week at 106.00. After the cool weather made its way back out of Missouri, combines started testing fields, filling trucks and turning on driers. The latest Missouri Crop Progress report shows 38 percent of the state’s corn crop is rated good to excellent; 46 percent of soybeans are rated good to excellent. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consists of 1683 head with a weighted average weight of 564.08 lbs and a price value of 151.05, 3.21 lower than last Friday.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Missouri barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
