It would be hard to beat the eagerness of the seller's market of last week and today saw a much lighter run by more than half. Quite a few highly marketable Feeders passed the block on that sale but still respectable numbers for this week. However, a corresponding lighter buyer attendance was noted as local farmer/feeder's presence wasn't felt as much today; some having filled their winter-feeding program last week or others holding for more favorable market conditions. Light #400 Steers sold higher while the middle of the run dipped by as much as $28 per cwt before selling steady to $7 per cwt higher for the heavy #600 Steers but it should be noted average weights for the #500 Steers were 6-28 pounds heavier today. Feeder Heifers flipped last week's trends with a firming up of the lighter end of the run by $15-$17 per cwt higher as the #600 weight breaks lowered $7-$10 per cwt; this despite the former averaging slightly higher in weight and the latter dropping by almost 10 pounds on average. Feeder Bulls sold $15 to $20 per cwt back from comparable Steers. It is worth noting that while the total head dropped, the quality of the offering remained essentially the unchanged: last week a high 80/20 split was noted between #1 and #2 muscling, this week followed suit almost identically with a 79/21 split along the same lines. All things considered, a firm demand with slight changes in preference chased a similar quality but lower offering today.
