Heavy run of quality Feeders for the first in barn graded special of September, just under 1,500 head compared to the same sale last year having a run of 932 head. Ample demand followed as well with lighter Steers and heavy Heifers holding the firmest demand. Comparison to the previous board sale and in barn sale at Buckhannon isn't an apples to apples comparison with those sales being comprised of heavier yearling type Feeders. However, looking at regional reports from neighboring States light Steers sold $20-$45 higher per cwt than last week's trends reported while the medium to heavy end of the run closes the gap. The opposite demand curve can be traced for Heifers using the same reports the lighter end sold roughly $10 lower per cwt while the heavy side sold $10-$15 higher or more. Two things to note on the quality of the offering is that the high run led to longer wait times to unload resulting in a very good weigh up. Secondly, wetter than average late summer conditions in N. Central WV provided better than normal pasturage and the quality showed in the calves today with 80% of the graded run going #1 muscled compared to a light 20% going to the shoulder pen as #2 muscled. Trends today set a good pace of excellent quality pursued by a firm demand.
