Compared to last week: Steer calves 2.00 to 8.00 lower, except 300-350 lbs and 450-500 lbs mostly steady. Heifer calves 5.00 to 15.00 lower. Too few yearling steers of weights comparable to last week to allow a price comparison, yearling heifers 2.00 to 3.00 higher. Good demand for steer and heifer calves remains, but not as robust as has been seen in recent weeks. There were long strings of high quality calves offered, including full load lots, more calves were fully preconditioned this week yet still many only carrying spring shots. As the market was under pressure the activity was not as rapid as it has been. Very good demand remains for yearlings as the supply has about been exhausted. The CME Live and Feeder Cattle futures continue to retreat which is forcing cattle feeders to refigure their breakevens, as well as the cash fed cattle market that continues to disappoint is putting pressure on the feeder cattle market. Special feeder cattle sale again next week, Sept. 24, 2021.
