Compared to last week: Steer calves under 450 lbs 10.00 to 20.00 lower, over 450 lbs 5.00 to 10.00 lower. Heifer calves under 400 lbs 5.00 to 10.00 lower, 400-450 lbs mostly steady, over 450 lbs 4.00 to 6.00 lower. Yearling feeder steers 5.00 to 7.00 lower, yearling heifers 4.00 to 6.00 lower. Good demand remains for these high quality spring born calves but cattle feeders were approaching the market with a little more caution as the Live and Feeder Cattle futures contracts have been under pressure. There were many long strings of calves, including full loads and multiple load lots, and the quality was very attractive as was the flesh condition. There were more preconditioned calves this week but still many only with spring shots and plenty of buyers willing to take on a calf that needs their booster shots. The calf market was active but not as fast paced as last week. Yearlings were offered in part loads and packages this week as the supply of yearlings is dwindling and the market was not as active as buyers had to piece loads together. Special feeder cattle sale again next week.
