Compared to last week: Slaughter steers and heifers too lightly tested last week to allow a meaningful trend with this week. Holstein steers 3.00 lower in a light test. Demand light, the market was very uneven with few packer buyers participating. Demand for small packages was very light which created very large price spreads this week, moderate for the full loads offered. Two full loads of steers, one half load with the rest small packages; One full load of heifers, balance small packages. Cattle hides have become clean as the ground conditions have dried thanks to the warm and sunny weather. Weighing conditions just average, estimated dressed cost was 160.00-165.00 on the loads while the packages and part load ranged from 150.00-158.00. CME Live Cattle futures fell further today, slipping past the 90.00 mark. Choice boxed beef has now passed the historical high price set in 2015 as today it reached 270.99, beating the previous record by 7.00. In spite of this extremely robust beef market CME Live Cattle futures are in the 80s. Slaughter cows steady to 1.00 lower than Monday's sale.

Traditional slaughter lambs not well tested last week to allow a comparison with this week, non-traditional (under 100 lbs) lambs sold with steady to higher undertones. Slaughter ewes 4.00 to 9.00 higher. Demand light for traditional slaughter lambs, very good for those light lambs as the market was very active for this class. The market was very uneven which created very wide price spreads. Good demand for slaughter ewes, very good demand for feeder lambs.
