Compared to last week: Slaughter steers and heifers 5.00 to 10.00 lower, Holstein steers 2.00 to 4.00 lower. Light demand this week, few packer buyers participating. A shorter, yet very high quality, run of steers and heifers this week. Market activity slow with few bids to be found as slaughter rates are reduced at the packing plants and few buyers present at the sale. Two and a half loads of steers, balance small packages, 5 loads of heifers with balance packages. The cattle offered were high quality grading, rather clean, and in a fair weighing condition making an estimated dressed cost of 145.00-150.00. CME Live Cattle futures are not giving any meaningful indication of what the market can expect this week or in coming weeks as the positive basis is extremely wide from the bargain basement prices the futures are predicting. Boxed beef continues to skyrocket, Choice boxes currently 347.80 yet cattle feeders are faced with devastating losses and left wondering how they will survive. Slaughter cows 3.00 to 5.00 higher. Bulls too lightly tested recently for a comparison.

Slaughter lambs of a traditional weight (over 100 lbs) 20.00 to 30.00 higher, non-traditional lambs (under 100 lbs) fully 30.00 to 40.00 lower. Slaughter ewes 5.00 to 10.00 higher. Feeder lambs 20.00 to 30.00 lower. Much improved demand for the heavy slaughter lambs, only moderate for the light lambs. Very good demand for slaughter ewes. Moderate to good demand for feeder lambs as there were many farmer feeders active this week. A very large offering of lambs under 100 lbs which saw lamb feeders competing with packer buyers to get them bought but still the market was sharply lower. Good demand for the replacement ewes offered.
