Compared to last week: Slaughter steers and heifers 7.00 to 10.00 higher, Holstein steers 1.00 to 2.00 higher. Very good demand this week for steers and heifers, all packer buyers were present and active bidders. A good offering of high quality grading, long strings of steers and heifers. Cattle were cleaner this week and packers were willing to pay more for them, dirty and full cattle were tougher to sell. Weighing condition fair, overall. Estimated dressed cost ranged from 190.00-194.00 for the bulk of the cattle. Packers finally stepped up to the table and pushed the market higher as their margins have been very large. Cattle futures were higher as well, but not limit higher like they were at the opening of the session. Slaughter cows 3.00 to 6.00 higher than Monday's sale, bulls not well compared.
Slaughter lambs and slaughter ewes sharply lower. Moderate demand for slaughter lambs, light demand for ewes. There were plenty of buyers for slaughter lambs and ewes but they were determined to buy them cheaper this week. Moderate demand for the few feeder lambs offered.
