These calf feds are lighter in weight and don't quality grade as well as the cattle fed as yearlings, dressing percents are lower as well. Many full loads of steers and heifers, 15 full loads of steers and 3 full loads of heifers. Weighing condition just average, some cattle very dirty yet which continue to pull back dressing percents, estimated dressed cost for most cattle 184.00-187.00. CME Live Cattle futures still do not rally which is keeping a negative cloud over the cash market. Packers margins appear to be very large as Choice boxed beef prices at 220.00 with dressed cost at 186.00. Slaughter cows 1.00 to 2.00 higher compared to Monday's sale, bulls 3.00 higher.
Slaughter lambs 3.00 to 9.00 lower, instances sharply lower on lambs under 100 lbs. Slaughter ewes sold very unevenly, overall the market was unevenly steady except the Good 2-3 ewes were a full 10.00 lower. Feeder lambs sold with sharply lower undertones as packers that were buying these light lambs to go to slaughter have now backed away from these light lambs. Only moderate demand for slaughter lambs, light to moderate for slaughter ewes, just moderate for feeder lambs.
