Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 800 lbs mostly steady, over 800 lbs 6.00 to 8.00 lower. Feeder heifers under 700 lbs unevenly steady, over 700 lbs 6.00 to 8.00 lower. Very good demand for cattle steers under 800 lbs and heifers under 700 lbs, moderate to good for those heavier weights. The large winter storm that brought rain, freezing rain, and snow to the region caused some cancellations this week and also hampered demand on those bigger cattle. Another day of losses on in the cattle futures, in spite of reports of 214.00, and even some at 215.00 for fat cattle last week, put pressure on cattle feeders. The market was active for those lighter weight cattle as numbers of that kind are getting harder to find, moderately active for the big cattle bound for finishing yards. There were large strings offered in full loads and multiple loads of these backgrounded cattle and the flesh was moderate to moderate plus, but cattle feeders weren't interested in chasing the market.
