Mostly yearling steers this week and heifers last week so an accurate price trend can not be established on yearling cattle. Too few calves last week to develop an accurate price trend on calves, higher undertones noted on both steer and heifer calves. Good to very good demand for yearlings. A string of black steers and a handful of loads of steers as well as packages of heifers, mostly tested opens, made up the yearling offering. Yearlings came off grass in mostly moderate flesh with some fill seen at times. Mostly good demand for calves with load lots seeing the best demand. Wide price spreads in calves due to hide color and lack of complete vaccinations. All calves were off the cow and flesh was mostly light to moderate. Varied quality on calves, from plain to attractive. An active market with both buyers and some farmer feeders in the seats. The weather has remained warm and very dry. Harvest is progressing quickly with most of the beans off and farmers heavily into corn. Next feeder cattle sale is Thursday, October 17.
