Too few yearlings today to compare to two weeks ago and develop an accurate price trend. Moderate to good demand for yearling cattle today. Most of the yearlings were tested open heifers selling in packages, one short string of spayed heifers available. All yearlings were off grass and flesh was mostly light to moderate with some fill on the cattle at times. Quality varied. Today was the first test on spring born calves and these were met with moderate demand. All came off the cow and the majority were vaccinated with two full rounds, those without shots saw very light demand. Calves were mostly attractive in quality and flesh was light to moderate. A moderate to active market today with a few less buyers attending. Most cattle feeders are not quite ready to take on bawling calves. Dusty conditions and fluctuating temperatures are just a couple of concerns for weaning calves right now. Harvest is in full swing with beans coming off quickly and corn looking to follow right along. Dry and mild weather is expected to continue with no frost in sight for the next two weeks. Next feeder cattle sale is Thursday, October 10 featuring both yearlings and calves.
