Compared to last Thursday: steer calves 450 to 600 lbs mostly steady with instances 2.00 higher on 500 to 550 lbs, 601 to 700 lbs 3.00 to 5.00 lower with instances up to 8.00 lower on 650 to 700 lbs. Best test on heifer calves 500 to 600 lbs mostly steady. Moderate to good demand for a handful of loads and many packages of fully preconditioned calves in today's offering, light to moderate demand for calves, mostly sold in packages, with only spring shots or just a 7 way shot. These calves sell with a discount. All calves off the cow today, and in light to moderate flesh. Quality varied, from plain to attractive. Many cancellations again today as road and yard conditions remain too muddy to get trucks in and out. Calf preconditioning remains a huge factor in how these calves are received at the auction as the terrible weather and yard conditions as well as tight margins are making feeders reluctant to place calves at this time and they are not willing to take a chance on calves that are more probable to get sick. Cold weather in the fore cast for next week. A mostly active market for the offering today with some interest in sending calves south to wheat pastures. Next feeder cattle sale is next Tuesday, October 29, expecting 6500.
