Too few calves two weeks ago to develop an accurate price trend. Moderate to good demand for today's calf offering which was lighter than expected due to still muddy yards and roads. Calves were mostly attractive quality today and in light to moderate flesh coming off the cows. Preconditioning differed among consignments and those calves without shots or with only partial preconditioning were discounted. With the very poor lot conditions and the stress of weaning, calves without a strong vaccination program are very hard to sell. An active market today many buyers in the seats. Weather remains the main obstacle for producers right now as things are very slow to dry out from the large amount of moisture the area has received. Many are still trying to get silage harvested and very little bean harvest has taken place. Next feeder cattle sale is Tuesday, October 22, featuring many Red Angus calves.
