Moderate demand for the strings of backgrounded yearling steers and heifers, moderate to good for the packages of fall born calves and light weight yearlings. Cattle feeders are very cautious currently as they watch the value of their market ready fed cattle deteriorate very rapidly and a futures complex that is declining just as fast. Live Cattle futures finally managed a little rally, with Jun gaining 1.15 but May Feeder Cattle lost 1.52 while the other months gained 1.00. Flesh condition was attractive overall, many in a light to moderate condition, hides a little dirty at times still, but the market activity was only moderate. The cattle suitable for backgrounding are sure easier to sell than the heavier weight and fleshed cattle that will reached finished weights in the coming months. Next week expecting 2,500 feeders, starting at 9:00 am.
