Compared to last week: Much lighter feeder cattle receipts this week, too few feeder steers and heifers offered to make full, complete comparisons. Heavy rains yesterday created very soft and muddy yard and road conditions making it difficult to get cattle shipped to town. Backgrounded cattle were in moderate to moderate plus flesh, cattle that were carrying too much flesh condition were tough to sell. There were many buyers actively bidding on cattle in light enough weight and flesh for backgrounding, the market was not nearly as active on the heavier cattle suitable only for finishing. Cattle feeders have been treading cautiously when it comes to replacing their outgoing fed cattle as that market has quickly receded as have the futures contracts. Expecting 4,000 head of feeder cattle next week starting at 8:30 am.
