Compared to last week: best test on steers 800 to 849 steady to 3.00 higher, 850 to 999 lbs 3.00 to 7.00 higher, 1000 to 1049 lbs mostly steady. Heifers not well tested today for comparison. A large offering this week featuring many strings and loads of finishing type cattle, mostly bought and backgrounded but a few of these were home raised also. Good to very good demand depending on flesh condition as some cattle carried quite a bit of flesh. A handful of loads and many packages of light backgrounding and grass type cattle offered which were met with very good demand. Now that grass turn out is here, and there was moisture to get the grass started, producers are determined to finish buying cattle to fill pastures. Quality varied throughout the day, but mostly average to attractive with some plainer cattle in packages. Buyers were a little more choosy this week picking through loads and taking one or two instead of all loads in a cut when offered, however, the market was still very active with buyers determined to own cattle. Warm temperatures and windy days have dried quite a bit of the moisture previously received. Corn planting is progressing rapidly. Next feeder cattle sale is Wednesday, May 13.
