Compared to last week: steers 500 to 599 lbs 5.00 to 10.00 higher, 600 to 649 lbs and 700 to 849 lbs mostly steady, 650 to 699 lbs 5.00 to 10.00 lower. Heifers 500 to 549 lbs 3.00 to 6.00 higher, 550 to 599 lbs and 700 to 749 lbs mostly steady, 600 to 699 lbs 6.00 to 10.00 lower. Good to very good demand for loads and packages today. Calves were all weaned and preconditioned and most all were home raised. Flesh varied but cattle carrying excess flesh still sell very well if they are the right kind. Lighter fleshed backgrounding and grass types still have plenty of outlets as buyers and farmer feeders compete to fill pens and pastures for summer. An active market with plenty of buyers and farmer feeders in the seats. February live cattle reached over 2.00 today further fueling the enthusiasm that has been present all marketing season. The very cold weather has broken and the next week looks much warmer with temps in the 30's, very good conditions for feeding cattle. Next feeder cattle sale is Wednesday, January 29.
