Compared to last week: best test on steers 850 to 899 and 950 to 999 lbs steady to 3.00 higher, 900 to 949 lbs mostly steady, 1000 to 1099 lbs 3.00 to 5.00 lower. Best test on heifers 800 to 899 lbs mostly steady. A big customer appreciation sale today featuring both yearlings and calves. Many loads and strings of yearlings again this week as well as quite a few packages, many of these tested open heifers. Moderate to good demand for cattle out of lots, good to very good demand for cattle off grass. Flesh varied quite a bit, from light to heavy. Good to very good demand for the first offering of spring calves with best demand seen for a consignment of reputation calves which sold in load lots. Calves were both off the cow and weaned, from 21 to 40 days. Vaccinations varied, but most calves had at least one full round. An active market for this offering with the normal crowd of order buyers as well as a few farmer feeders interested in calves. Warm and dry conditions continue for this area making harvest progress very quickly. Farmers are moving easily from beans to corn as the crop is dry enough. However, these are not the best conditions to wean calves with temperature swings and dusty lots and fields. Next feeder cattle sale is Wednesday, October 16.
