No sale last week due to Thanksgiving, compared to two weeks ago: steer calves 500 to 599 lbs 5.00 to 10.00 higher, 600 to 699 lbs 12.00 to 20.00 higher on a narrow comparison, yearling steers not well compared. Best test on heifer calves 550 to 599 lbs mostly steady, yearling heifers not well compared. A string of 1800 steers from one family operation made up most of the yearling offering today. These attractive cattle were met with good to very good demand. Flesh condition mostly moderate to moderate plus on yearlings. Moderate to good demand for calves depending on quality which ranged from plain to attractive. A few more consignments of weaned calves but most of the offering was still off the cow. Flesh varied, from moderate to heavy with some fill at times. Some consignments had full preconditioning but many had just a round of fall shots. An active market on yearlings, moderate to active on calves. A positive week for the futures complex giving buyers more optimism again. Cold and snowy weather has arrived and put some stress on these calves, especially those still competing with cows for feed. Next feeder cattle sale is Friday, December 12.
