Compared to last week: yearling cattle not well compared. Steer calves 450 to 499 lbs 15.00 to 20.00 lower, 500 to 549 lbs unevenly steady, 550 to 599 lbs 6.00 to 9.00 higher, 600 to 649 lbs 3.00 lower. Heifer calves 450 to 549 lbs 15.00 to 20.00 higher. Good demand for yearlings today. A couple long strings, one of steers and one of heifers, made up the majority of the yearling offering, all coming out of yards. A few tested open heifers rounded out the offering, some of these still came off grass. Flesh moderate plus to heavy on yard cattle, mostly moderate to moderate plus on the few grass cattle. Moderate to good demand for calves. A handful of loads and many packages made up the calf offering, most coming off the cow. Quality and preconditioning varied quite a bit and buyers are willing to overlook a poor shot record but only on attractive quality calves. Plainer calves and those without good shots are a much a harder to find homes for. Most calves in light to moderate flesh. An active market on yearlings, even those with extra flesh, as buyers know yearling cattle are almost gone. A moderate to active market on calves with both buyers and farmer feeders in the seats for these. The futures complex had another week of ups and downs further adding to the uncertainty already present in the market. Next feeder cattle sale is Friday, November 21. This will be the last sale before Thanksgiving.
