Compared to last week: Steer calves under 500 lbs sold with a lower undertone in a limited test, 500-600 lbs steady to 5.00 higher, steer calves over 600 lbs not well compared. Heifer calves under 450 lbs sold with lower undertones in a limited test, over 450 lbs 4.00 to 8.00 higher. Yearling feeder steers were uneven, 900-950 lbs 3.00 to 7.00 lower, 950-1000 lbs mostly steady, 1000-1050 lbs 5.00 lower, instances to 10.00 lower, 1100-1150 lbs steady to 5.00 higher. Yearling feeder heifers sold with a lower undertone in a limited test. Good demand for this large offering of yearling steers and heifers, some off grass, but most were coming out of a yard but flesh condition wasn't too heavy. The market was active on the yearlings but the winter months of the CME Live Cattle futures contracts being so much lower than the current market put some pressure on the feeder cattle market. A more limited calf offering than last week, it was difficult for buyers to make full loads of calves but the market was still active. Local cow/calf producers haven't felt a big push to sell calves yet as the weather has been so mild, allowing them time to get harvest complete and some field work done before really needing to sell calves. Next week, expecting 1,000 yearlings and 3,500 calves.
