Compared to last week: Feeder steers 2.00 to 5.00 lower, except 850-900 lbs steady. Good demand for this nice offering of long strings of yearling steers and heifers, primarily offered in load lots and multiple load lots, a few packages and part loads offered as well. Flesh conditions ranged from light to moderate plus, and quality was attractive. The market was active as there was a lot of buying power in the seats, yet cattle feeders are becoming much more cautious in their approach to the market as the much lower outlook that the CME Live Cattle contracts are currently projecting is very concerning. Cash fed cattle continue to trade with a very strong positive basis, even though they traded lower again this week. Next feeder cattle auction will be in 2 weeks, Sept. 6, 2024.
