No recent price comparison available as it's been several weeks since the last sizable auction. Very good demand for this annual springtime BBQ sale that featured many long strings of high quality yearlings and fall born calves. The seats were full of buyers ready to bid. Many full loads of steers and heifers offered, with many offered in multiple load lots. The market was extremely active and demand was red hot. Hide color was not the determining factor that it has been in how high prices could reach as buyers were just as anxious to own the colored cattle as they were the straight blacks. The flesh varied, with many cattle that were light enough in weight and flesh that they could run on this summer's grass, while there was many more that were heavier weight that were bound for feedyards. The rains have come to the northern plains and the optimism is running high for a good grazing and haying season, and with the bullish outlook for feeder cattle yearling operators are willing to give a lot of money to make sure they have cattle to sell when the grazing season is over. This is the time of year where sale schedules become sporadic, and with the strength of the cash fed cattle market buyers were quick to strike to get their summer feeding cattle they need. Watch local listings for the next special feeder cattle sale.
