Compared to last week: Steer calves under 450 lbs 5.00 to 15.00 lower, 450-600 lbs 25.00 to 35.00 lower, instances of 45.00 to 50.00 lower, over 600 lbs 15.00 to 25.00 lower. Heifer calves under 400 lbs 60.00 to 80.00 lower, over 400 lbs 15.00 to 30.00 lower. Another very large offering of high quality, spring born steer and heifer calves this week, but the market has been under extreme pressure across the nation due to the horrible losses seen in the cattle futures complex since last Friday. Cattle buyers were much more reserved in their approach to buying cattle, as those losses in the futures contracts shook cattle feeders confidence in the market. There is plenty of interest in buying these good calves, but buyers were determined to back them up as much as they could. Most times bids rolled along in 1.00 to 2.50 increments, compared to the usual 5.00, but the competition was strong and bids went along way from their starting points. The market got more active as the sale progressed and stayed that way til the end. CME Live and Feeder Cattle contracts closed pretty much unchanged, but Oct Live Cattle went off the board gaining 4.10, helping to support the cash fed cattle market this week that had yet to fully establish. Next reported sale will be Nov. 6, 2025 expecting 4,500 feeder cattle.
