Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 650 lbs 6.00 to 10.00 higher, over 650 lbs rather steady. Feeder heifers under 550 lbs 8.00 to 10.00 higher, over 550 lbs steady to 4.00 higher, instances to 6.00 higher. Very good demand for all weights of feeder cattle, however the best demand and where the market was the most active was centered on those steers and heifers under 550 lbs to make yearlings of. Good demand for the replacement heifers offered. As the cattle futures continues to work it's way higher again, optimism is building for the fall marketing season and yearling operators are willing to compete heavily and chase the market to secure the cattle they need. The fall months of the Feeder Cattle contract at 268.00 is lending great support to the feeder cattle market. Live Cattle futures moving to 180.00 is very supportive as well, but cattle feeders are facing losses from yearlings they placed on feed last summer/fall and are being much more cautious as they buy cattle to refill empty pens. Next week expecting 3,000 feeders for the Greater Midwest Livestock Auctioneering contest.
