Compared to last week: Steer calves under 600 lbs sold sharply higher with most sales 10.00-15.00, with the exception of 500-549 lbs which sold steady to 2.00 higher. Steers over 600 lbs were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed. Heifer calves under 500 lbs sold mostly steady to 2.00 higher, 500-550 lbs heifers sold mostly 10.00 higher on a very attractive offering. Heifers over 550 lbs were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, steady to weak undertones were noticed. All yearling cattle were too lightly tested to develop any market trend. Demand today was mostly moderate to good for light to moderate offerings. Good demand was seen for all calves suitable to develop into yearlings. A large crowd was on hand for todays sale with several farmer feeders in the mix bidding on grass cattle. Buyers were willing to buy calves up to 515 lbs to develop into yearlings. The August feeder cattle board closed at 200.025 today, 1.45 higher which added additional support for light weight calves. Market activity this week was mostly active with buyers bidding rapidly on all offerings. Weigh up cows sold on mostly light to moderate demand for moderate to heavy offerings. Slaughter cows sold steady to 1.00 lower on breaking and boning cows, lean cows sold mostly 2.00-3.00 lower. Feeding cows sold fully steady. Cow and bull quality was mostly average this week and overall lower than last week. Weigh up conditions were mostly average today. Slaughter bulls sold generally steady. Feeding bulls sold 2.00-3.00 higher as packers opted to feed most of the bull offering. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold generally steady. Quality was mostly average this week and lower than last week.
