There was a good crowd on hand for the special replacement cattle sale at Ozark's Regional Stockyard on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Compared to the last special replacement sale on August 14, 2022, bred cows averaged 50.00-100.00 higher while pairs averaged 150.00-200.00 higher. The top price for bred cows was 2000.00 which was 500.00 higher than the top cow in August. Top pairs brought 1850.00 which was 150.00 higher. Demand was good on a moderate supply. Keep in mind that at the last sale in August, the area was still suffering from the effects of the drought and a short supply of hay. Thankfully August turned out to be wetter than normal and many were able to harvest a second cutting of hay which yielded more than the first. Good rains across the area this week have helped ease concerns about lack of water in creeks and ponds but subsurface moisture is still below average. Only replacement animals were reported which made up 70 percent of the total with the balance 26 percent slaughter animals and 4 percent calves.
