Compared to last week 400 to 600 lbs steers sold steady to 6.00 higher. Over 600 lbs sold steady to 3.00 lower. Heifers under 600 lbs sold 5.00 to 9.00 higher, over 600 lbs sold 3.00 to 4.00 lower. Slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00 lower and bulls sold 3.00 lower. On comparable ages and pregnancy bred cows sold 100.00 per head lower and the same for the pairs. Demand was moderate to good. Bulk of the heifers over 600 lbs were handpicked for replacement heifers. With the drought still lingering on, ranchers opted to sell these top-quality genetics so their cow/calf pairs can graze on the extremely short grass. Bulk of these heifers are going to be grown and then placed on a finishing ration. Spotty rains showers in some areas of the state prevailed.
