Compared to last week: Yearling feeder steers and heifers 10.00 to 20.00 higher, instances to 30.00 higher on 900-950 lbs steers. Very good demand for yearling steers and heifers, especially by late week as the futures contracts rallied and reports of cash fed cattle at 225.00. Cattle feeders are ready to take on these good, light fleshed yearlings right off grass, and know they will have to compete heavily as the yearling supply is tight this year. However, with outgoing fed cattle losing money and the futures not supporting the cash markets as breakeven prices are much higher than the level the futures are at. Few strings of spring born calves coming to town already, as the drought has been severe and grass is very short. Moderate demand for those calves as most cattle feeders aren't ready to take on a bawling calf yet.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
