Only 1 reported auction during the New Year's week, as most auction locations did not host feeder cattle auctions over the holidays, auction markets resumed their regular sale schedule this week. Very good demand for all weights and classes as the outlook has improved greatly since before the Christmas break. Large receipts as feeder cattle producers were ready to capitalize on a higher market, new record highs were achieved at many locations on lighter weight feeders. Backgrounders who need to buy light cattle were geared up to battle it out for those good light fleshed, yearling makers. Fewer of those kinds of cattle available. Cattle feeders were eager to buy the bigger cattle, yet they still feel the sting of losses they suffered this fall when the market fell and aren't quite as gung-ho to get in that position again. Large receipts expected again next week.
