Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 1000 lbs 3.00 to 5.00 higher, over 1000 lbs 3.00 to 8.00 lower. Feeder heifers unevenly steady. Good demand for yearling steers and heifers, yet cattle feeders are approaching the feeder market with caution that hasn't been seen in quite some time. As cash fed cattle were lower in the north, 230.00-235.00, and the current volatility in the cattle futures complex, the feeder cattle market had some pressure on it. Flesh condition is everything and cattle feeders will compete heavily to buy those light fleshed cattle off grass, but breakeven prices are being adjusted downward. Moderate to good demand for spring born calves, there is great interest in buying these calves but most cattle feeders are busy with fall harvest and not quite ready to take on a bawling calf that needs to be watched closely. Very warm days, and cool nights are the right recipe for sick calves.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
