Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers sold with higher undertones compared to the limited offerings a week ago. Very good demand for all weights of steers and heifers after the Independence Day holiday week as there were more auctions that hosted a feeder cattle sale this week. Cash fed cattle were higher, up to 242.00, which is causing cattle feeders to remain very bullish in their outlook for the rest of the year. The cash market holds a huge, positive basis over the futures contracts as the market fundamentals remain very positive, causing cattle producers to pay little attention to the movements of the futures contracts. They know that if they want to fill their pens with yearlings they will have to compete very heavily and are willing to chase the market. Row crops are receiving ample moisture this summer, keeping feed cost very low which is giving them more incentive to feed cattle. Pasture conditions are good as well, allowing for a full, complete grazing season.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
