Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 700 lbs sold with sharply higher undertones compared to the limited offerings last week, 700-900 lbs 8.00 to 10.00 higher, over 900 lbs 2.00 to 3.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 600 lbs sold with sharply higher undertones, 600-800 lbs 8.00 to 15.00 higher, over 800 lbs steady to 4.00 higher. Very good demand for all weights of steers and heifers as the cash fed cattle market continues to make new all-time, historical, high prices with each passing week. The market was incredibly active, especially on those lighter steers and heifers as they are much harder to come by than the bigger cattle. Cattle feeders are very bullish currently as the cash fat cattle market has soared to levels that was many thought impossible. As the futures contracts fail to keep up with the cash market, the hope is the basis will stay positive all year long and feeder cattle that were feared to be bought too high, will be very profitable. Corn went in the ground very quickly this year as conditions were dry, rain is needed now as temps have shot up to 90 degrees and a lot of wind.
