Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers 2.00 to 6.00 higher. Very good demand for yearling steers and heifers as the cash fed cattle market fed cattle market traded up to 198.00, a record high. Sale schedules are irregular during the summer, as auction markets try to get larger special sales scheduled which results in a bigger sale and lots of buyers on the seats. The market is incredibly active on these yearlings as cattle feeders are so hopeful that this run in the fed cattle market continues. The CME Live Cattle futures continues to lag 10.00 behind the cash market, causing buyers to pay no attention to it at all as they are fully aware of how limited cattle numbers are this year. Heavy rains in southeast SD caused low land flooding as some areas received more than 12 inches of rain. Western parts of the state could use a rain. Auction receipts are rather light as grazing conditions are adequate and allowing yearlings to stay turned out. Slaughter cows steady, bulls not well tested.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
