Compared to last week: Flesh condition was heavier this week, as reported auctions were all East of the Missouri river where the yearlings are backgrounded in feedyards, feeder steers sold unevenly steady, heifers sold with steady to lower undertones. More customer appreciation BBQ sales were held this week and the market was extremely active. Higher cattle futures early in the week helped to set the tone for the feeder market. Cash fed cattle rose all the way up to 198.00, futures contracts did rally a little up still 10.00 or more positive basis exists as the cash continues to lead. Grazing conditions are much better than last year, lending to a good outlook for cow/calf and yearling producers. Cattle feeders are active bidders as the sale schedules are irregular now, as is normal for this time of the year, and they want to be able to buy these loads and strings of yearlings when they are offered. Slaughter cows mostly steady, bulls too few to compare.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
