Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 800 lbs 4.00 to 6.00 higher, instances of 10.00 to 20.00 higher on 600-700 lbs, over 800 lbs 5.00 to 8.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 850 lbs 6.00 to 12.00 higher, over 850 lbs 3.00 to 4.00 higher. Very good demand for all weights of steers and heifers this week as the cash fed cattle market was able to climb to 187.00 and the futures contracts made gains as well. The lack of the futures following the cash markets was really adding resistance to the feeder cattle market, as the futures seemed to find a floor and move back higher so did the spirits of cattle producers along with their willingness to give more money to get cattle bought. The grass is green and growing, turnout time is just about upon us, this is keeping demand for light fleshed cattle, to turn out on grass, red hot. This week was a major psychological win for the cattle feeder as the lows that were posted in the Live Cattle contracts seemed to finally hit the point where support was find and then turn higher. The summer contracts briefly dipped into the 160s, which would be nothing short of devastating to cattle feeders bottom lines, but then the longs stepped back in and drove those months back towards 180.00. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 higher, bulls 5.00 to 6.00 higher.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
