Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers steady to 5.00 higher. Very good demand for yearling steers and heifers as cattle feeders

continue to hold great leverage over the packers and were able to push fat cattle up to 190.00 this week. The market is very active, especially

if the cattle are coming off grass as the flesh condition is light and very desirable. However, the feedyard backgrounded cattle are easy to sell

as well, as long as the flesh is not too heavy. Feed efficiency is the key factor this year, as the cost of these feeder cattle are so high and will

have a very high breakeven price. Corn prices continue to work lower, much lower than last year, which is helping to support the feeder

market at these price levels. Grass conditions are still good enough west of the Missouri River allowing cattle to stay turned out for the entire

grazing season, drier conditions east of the river has caused some yearlings to come early. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 higher, bulls steady.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
