Compared to last week: Much lighter offerings made complete price comparisons difficult, feeder steers under 1000 lbs and all weights of heifers sold with lower undertones, steers over 1000 lbs sold with higher undertones. Very good demand for steers and heifers, yet there is some added pressure to the market as the corn futures responded to the widening drought which caused Feeder Cattle futures to retreat heavily early in the week. Cash fed cattle still remain in the mid 180s, still leaving a large positive basis over the futures, which is helping to pull cattle ahead and keep market ready cattle current. Rains finally came East River, giving corn the moisture it desperately needed as drought stress was very evident. Slaughter cows 1.00 to 2.00 lower, bulls 1.00 lower.
